If your want to improve your posture, then consider yoga and Pilates. Many people think that the two are the same but in reality, they are different. Yoga focuses on relaxation and the balance of your mind, while Pilates focuses on strengthening the core of your body, relaxing your mind, correcting and improving your posture to create a good body balance.
“Yoga” shapes your body by stretching your muscles to make it fitter, improves your concentration by training your breathing, reduces stress, and reduces the chance of contracting illness. Yoga also makes your skin healthier because it improves the blood flow. Similar to Pilates, yoga helps improve your body balance so you will have great posture whenever you sit, stand, or walk.
“Pilates” is one of the safest forms of exercise because it has little to no bodily impact. It focuses on tender and natural movements. Originated in the 20th century, Pilates aims to improve the balance of the spine and strengthen muscles to improve the body’s flexibility. It focuses on exercising correctly according to the human anatomy. Pilates can be done on a mat or with Pilates equipment (which helps strengthen muscles.) There are 3 types of Pilates:
1. Pilates on a mat – which can be done at home similar to yoga.
2. Pilates reformer – which must be done with specific equipment. The equipment helps stretch and pull your body with and against gravity. It is mostly done at fitness centres.
3. Pilates fly – which is an exercise that uses cloth hanging from a ceiling as the main equipment. Pilates fly combines the art of yoga, Pilates, and gymnastics together. It must be done at a fitness centre with a professional teacher for safety.
Both forms of exercise are suitable for people of all genders and ages. Whether you are women, men, children, teenagers, adults, or elders, yoga and Pilates are great choices for exercise. Note that you should choose poses that are suitable for the condition of your body.
